    Lighthouse and Mystic Village Overnight

Visit Mystic Seaport, the nation’s leading maritime museum and home to the Charles W. Morgan, the last wooden whaleship in the world. Explore American maritime history first-hand as you climb aboard tall ships, stroll through a 19th-century coastal village, discover exhibits, and watch a working preservation shipyard in action.

That evening you are in for a taste treat at the Waterfront Restaurant in New London, Ct. You will dine in an elegant, private dining room with floor-to-ceiling windows affording you a beautiful view of the harbor on the Connecticut River. Great food! Choice from menu!

After a great nights’ sleep and hot and cold breakfast you will have time to shop at Olde Mystic Village. Separate from the Seaport, Olde Mystic Village is filled with quaint shops with hand crafted gifts, high fashion jewelry and Mystic made souvenirs. Then board the comfortable high-speed Sea Jet in New London, Ct. A smooth-sailing, wave-piercing catamaran capable of cruising at speeds in excess of 30 knots (35 mph), the Sea Jet is equipped with modern airline-style seating on two enclosed air-conditioned passenger decks with spacious outdoor decks.

The 8 Lighthouse Tour is narrated by former Navy man and sailor Ted Webb, who grew up on Long Island Sound and knows all the history and stories of the 8 lighthouses you’ll see as you cross from New London to the shores of Long Island, N.Y.

Essex Luncheon Steam Train and Riverboat Excursion

All aboard the Essex Steam Train where you will enjoy a 3-course lunch aboard a restored 1920’s Pullman dining car as part of a 3.75 hour lunch, train and riverboat sightseeing excursion! Their attentive staff will transport you back to an era when rail travel was king and eating in the “diner” was a special occasion! This beautiful car is complete with table linens and beautifully outfitted waiters and, of course, a full bar.

Upon boarding the dining car, you’ll savor a hot lunch that is prepared and cooked on board. Travel aboard the train along the lower Connecticut River Valley while you finish your meal. At Deep River Landing, transfer to the Becky Thatcher riverboat for a cruise on the Connecticut River, bursting with lush scenery and historic sights such as Gillette Castle. Following your cruise, return to Essex Station aboard one of our coach passenger cars.

We’re not through yet! After your excursion visit the Historic Village of Essex.

On Main Street, village shops and early Colonial and Federal-era homes jostle side by side. A short stroll quickly reveals why Essex was named the “Perfect Small American Town” in 1,000 Places to See Before You Die. Another guidebook names Essex #1 on its list of “The 100 Best Small Towns in America.”
